Welcomes youth action in this year’s donations

TORONTO – January 13, 2020 – Celebrating 24 years of hosting Canada’s largest shoe drive, shoe designer and retailer Ron White is proud to continue his tradition with the help of Mayor John Tory and the children of Lawrence Park School with a donation event being held Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 9AM.

Each January, Ron White Shoes collects gently worn footwear for men, women and children at their retail location across the GTA. The Ron White teams clean, sort and distribute the shoes and boots to organizations in need and have collected over 50,000 pairs to date. This year’s partners include CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health) Foundation’s Gifts of Light program, the New Circles GLOW clothing program and Dress for Success Toronto. Shoe drive collections continue to February 2rd and in appreciation, donors will receive a $50 gift card that can be redeemed at any Ron White Shoes location.

“The focus of this year’s Shoe Drive is to engage youth and demonstrate action, inspired by the leadership of Greta Thunberg,” said CEO and Creative Director Ron White. “I am honoured to have Mayor John Tory joining us at Lawrence Park School to help set an example and show the children how they can contribute to making a difference in our city.”

The event at Lawrence Park School is intended to engage the local community and raise awareness about shoe and boot collections during the harshest month of winter. Over the last twenty-four years, celebrities from around the globe have donated their shoes under the theme of “follow in the footsteps of your favourite celebrity” and donations range from Celine Dion, Matt Damon, Catherine O’Hara, Vanessa Williams, Rachel McAdams, and Lionel Richie, to The Tenors, Mayor John Tory and many others.

“We know that social media can be a powerful tool for change and invite everyone to share a photo of themselves holding their donation – and tag us at #RWShoeDrive” said Ron White. “Help raise the awareness and get your friends and family to follow in your footsteps and make a difference!”
